Ethos

Cataloguing creative, file-based work shouldn't require an account, lock-in, or surrendering your files to someone else's cloud.

Why CatalogueCanvas exists

Cataloguing creative digital, file-based work has long meant choosing between scattered folders and a hosted service that owns your data. CatalogueCanvas exists to give you a single, self-hosted home for your work that you fully control. Implementing FAIR principles of scientific data into this context .

Principles

  • Self-hosted & sovereign — your catalogue, your disc, your data. No external account required.
  • Domain-agnostic — digital art, illustration, generative & algorithmic work, code, design assets; the tool makes no assumptions.
  • Open — open source under the GNU AGPL 3.0.
  • Durable & portable — plain ZIPs in, WebP/SQLite out; full backups one click away.
  • Low footprint — runs in a single container on modest hardware.

What we deliberately avoid

  • No telemetry, no phoning home.
  • No vendor lock-in — data is exportable at any time.
  • Reduce as much as possible the barrier to it up setup.
